Thank you very much for taking an interest in our study on Decision-Making. This letter provides information to enable you to make an informed decision on your participation. Take your time to read it carefully.

Participant Selection

You are allowed to participate if you are at least 18 years old. Further, you must have normal or corrected to normal vision.

Ethical Approval

Ethics approval for the study has been granted by the Ethics Review Committee Inner City Faculties (ERCIC) of Maastricht University (The Netherlands). The reference number of this project is ERCIC_825_07_03_2026_Riedl.

Voluntary Participation and Time to Decide

Participation is completely voluntary, and you have the right to stop participation at any time.

Procedure

If you choose to participate, you will be asked to complete one computerized session lasting approximately 45 minutes. The exact duration may vary depending on your decisions. The session consists of choice tasks and questionnaires.

Benefits

For participation, you will receive a payment between GBP 4.50 and GBP 13.00. How much you earn will depend on your own decisions, the decisions of others, and random events.

Privacy

Research Data can be published and re-used in other research, but only in such a way that they cannot be traced back to you. You can withdraw your consent to the use of your data at any time. In that case, your data will be deleted if possible.

Informed Consent

I hereby give permission to use my data for scientific purposes. I had enough time to decide whether I want to participate in the study. I know that participation is voluntary, and I know that I can decide at any time to withdraw from the study. I do not have to provide any justification for such a decision to quit.

I have had the opportunity to ask questions and my questions have been answered sufficiently. I know that the data will be saved in a pseudonymous way and consequently only pseudonymous data will be made public.
